Siliguri traders badly hit

HT, SILIGURI, 12 Nov 2016: The demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes continues to adversely affect common people and the retail business in Siliguri has hit an all time low.
Siliguri, the biggest business hub of entire North Bengal and Sikkim, has been witnessing less than 50% daily business transaction for the last three days. And the businessmen think that it would take weeks before the business becomes normal.
Traders like Raju Prasad, Girish Das and Santosh Singha are at a loss to cope with the effect.
Prasad whose family sells fish in the busy Champasari fish market said, “Due to lack of Rs 100 notes, less customers are visiting the stall.” In normal days, daily sale is to the tune of Rs 40,000. For the last three days, he is hardly able to sell fishes worth Rs 15,000.
