IT gave clean chit, says bank

TT, Raiganj, Nov. 20: The authorities of the Raiganj Central Cooperative Bank today claimed that the income tax department that had been going through its recent deposit records were satisfied and had verbally given the bank a "clean chit".
On Thursday, CPM Lok Sabha member from Raiganj Mohammad Salim had alleged that the Trinamul-run bank was being used by leaders of the ruling party to park their black money.
Income tax officials from the Jalpaiguri division and Calcutta, visited the bank head office on Friday and Saturday.
"We handed over to income tax department officials all the documents they had asked for. I am happy to say they were satisfied with what we furnished and they gave me a verbal clean chit. We have been assured that we will be sent an official note on their finding soon," the chairman of the bank, Mohammad Masud Nasem Ehsan, said today.
He said Salim had "lost his mental balance".
