Large cache of arms seized, two held

EOI, MALDA, 28 Oct 2016: District police arrested two persons with huge cache of arms from two different spots under English Bazaar and Kaliachak police stations today. Both of them were accused of several serious crimes including rioting, attempt to murder, robbery etc.
Arnab Ghosh, the superintendent of police said, “One Tarun Ghosh, 29 was arrested from Sailapur area near Madhughat under English Bazaar police station today. Muskets, pipe-guns and several rounds of live cartridges were recovered from his custody. On perusing his crime records it has been found that several other cases like rioting, attempt to murder etc were pending against him.”
“We are interrogating him and he would be produced in court on Saturday,” Ghosh said.
He also added that one Mobiur Rahman was arrested from Chash Para area in Kaliachak police station. “Two 7mm modern pistols and two improvised guns with bullets for the pistols and the guns were seized from him,” the SP said.
He also informed that more than 1200 persons were arrested as preventive measures before the Diwali festival from across the district. Additionally, a large number of gamblers were arrested too with more than Rs 50000 as the gambling amount.
“One senior police official in the rank of the additional SP, four officials in the rank of the DSP would be monitoring the law and order situation during the Kali Pujo and Diwali. Three sections of RAF (Rapid action force) personnel would be ready to maintain the law and order situation during the festive season,” the SP said.
