Tourism funds- swadesh darshan
TT, Gangtok, Sept. 7: The Centre has sanctioned Rs 95.5 crore under Swadesh Darshan scheme to Sikkim for the development of new tourism attractions in the state.
Sikkim tourism minister Ugen Gyatso Bhutia said here today that the Union tourism ministry had sanctioned Rs 95.5 crore on September 5.
"This is for the second time that money has been given to Sikkim under the Swadesh Darshan scheme. The funds will help boost the tourism industry in Sikkim," said Bhutia.
The Centre had earlier released around Rs 98 crore under the scheme.
A senior tourism official said the main objectives of the scheme were to develop a tourism circuit and promote cultural and heritage values.
According to the data of the tourism department, Sikkim receives around 10 lakh visitors every year. "The funds would be utilised for the development of adventure and health tourism by setting up infrastructure like cultural centres, paragliding centres, meditation camps and base camp for trekking and mountaineering," Bhutia said.
