SPCC writes to Prez seeking dismissal of Sikkim Guv
Prashant Acharya, EOI, SILIGURI, 13 Sep 2016 : The Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee has written to the President demanding the removal of Sikkim Governor Shrinivas Patil saying the party plans to launch protest programmes including meetings and rallies across the state.
Addressing a press conference today at the Siliguri Journalists' Club, SPCC president Bharat Basnet claimed Patil is involved in a scam involving allocation of houses built for Kargil martyrs in Maharashtra and an enquiry committee has already submitted its report to the Mumbai High Court. Basnet said: "There are various allegations against Governor Patil as gleaned from media reports from outside the state of Sikkim." He said Patil's name is linked with various scams and acts of corruption.
Further, the SPCC chief alleged Patil has been accused of being involved in many high profile scams in Maharasthra including the 323-acre Mukun Bhawan Trust scam, the Sangmaner Cooperative Sugar Mill scam and the Adarsh Society Flat Allotment scam. Hence, the governor should resign on moral grounds, he added. Basnet appealed to the President to take appropriate action on the allegations as reported by the media and revoke his appointment as the Governor of Sikkim.
Basnet also said letters have been forwarded to the Prime Minister, the Lok Sabha speaker and the Supreme Court Chief Justice seeking Patil's dismissal.
