Sister accused of murdering brother on witchcraft suspicion
EOI, SILIGURI, 23 Sep 2016: A 50-year-old man was found dead on the banks of the Ghatiya river in Jalpaiguri district on Thursday with several injury marks on the body. Some local youths suspected of involvement in the case have been arrested.
The deceased has been identified as Raju Minj, a resident of Jahadee Labour Line in Bhagatpur Tea Estate under Nagrakatta PS.
As per the police, Raju had already informed them that his sister Chandmuni was conspiring to kill him. She had been spreading false rumours since the past several days that Raju practiced witchcraft.
Chandmuni suspected Raju to be a warlock and wanted to kill him. Raju had told the police his life was in danger, said officers.
Five to six persons went to Raju’s house on Wednesday evening and took him to the Ghatiya river where they thrashed him severely and killed him. They threw Raju’s body in the river after realising he had succumbed to the severe beating.
Raju’s wife alleged Chandmuni suspected her husband to be a warlock and was behind the murder. She has filed an FIR against Chandmuni and the group.
Police are investigating the matter and have said it is a case of conspiracy murder.
