GNLF will contest municipal elections on its own: Dewan

SNS, Kurseong, 21 September: All four municipal branches of Gorkha National Liberation Front ( GNLF) decided to contest the upcoming municipality elections in all four municipalities in hills without entering into an alliance after the party members met to discuss the same in a community hall in Chenga here today.
Speaking to media persons, the GNLF Kurseong subdivisional branch committee spokesperson Mr Daya Dewan informed that the representatives of the GNLF from different places in Kurseong and Mirik were present in Chenga.
During the meeting, the attendees discussed the present political scenario and accordingly have decided to contest the upcoming Kurseong & Mirik municipality election under its own banner without going for any alliance, it has been learnt.
He further added that not only Mirik and Kurseong municipality seats, instead the GNLF Kalimpong and Darjeeling branches have also decided to fight their respective municipality elections under the GNLF party banner without associating with any other party, Hence, they will place their own GNLF candidates in the four hill municipality seats.
Replying to a question, Mr Dewan further stressed that as to press and highlight their Sixth Schedule demand as well as keeping in mind the then political scenario of Darjeeling hills, GNLF had supported the Trinamul Congress (TMC) party and its candidates in both the last parliamentary election and assembly election.
