GJYM burns Aroop's effigy as 72-hour ultimatum ends

SNS, Darjeeling, 18 September:As the seventy two hour ultimatum given by Gorkha JanMukti Yuva Morcha (GJMYM) for state PWD, Youth affairs and Sports minister Mr Aroop Biswas to apologize to the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) supremo Bimal Gurung passed, the youth wing burned the effigy of the minister here today as an act of protest.
Mr Biswas had said that people of the hills will make Mr Gurung leave the hills in future.
GJMM and its sister organisations have been crying foul over this statement over the past several days.
It is to be noted here that GJMM and its ally GJMYM has been demanding withdraw of the statement and an apology from Mr Biswas over his alleged controversial remarks on Mr Gurung during his public address at Kurseong.
The youth wing has maintained that if Mr Biswas does not change the statement then they will undertake series of protests in different possible forms but remaining in the lines of democratic protest.
GJMM Central Committee member Arun. Chettri said: "We had faxed Mr Biswas on 16 September to apology for his remarks on Mr Bimal Gurung. The ultimatum of 72 hours has passed and he did not respond to our communication. If his stand remains the same, we will launch various agitations in a democratic manner."
