Students ill after tablets

TT, Aug. 11: Over 400 students from different schools in Jalpaiguri, North Dinajpur and Cooch Behar districts fell ill after they took deworming pills distributed today.
More than 100 students, who complained of nausea, stomach ache and headache, are admitted to hospitals.
The tablets were given to the students as part of Nirmal School Abhijaan, a campaign in government schools across the state from August 8 to 13.
Doctors said such side effects were common if albendazole pills are taken before food. Mridula Chatterjee, the head of pediatric department at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, said: "Side effects like nausea and headache are temporary."
In Jalpaiguri 100-odd children are ill, in Cooch Behar, seven students from a school are unwell and five from a school in North Dinajpur are ill.
