Probe into car plunge
TT, July 16: Darjeeling police have started a probe to ascertain the cause of yesterday's accident involving an escort car in the convoy of the President and the chief minister and will examine the vehicle and speak to the driver and the other injured police personnel.
While passing through dense fog around 11.30am, the Mahindra Scorpio, which was part of a 28-car convoy that was travelling from Darjeeling town to Bagdogra airport, had swerved to the right instead of taking a left turn in the hill station Sonada, smashed the road barrier and plunged 200 feet into a gorge.
Five police personnel, including driver Gautam Sen, suffered injuries. Sen is a member of the Bengal government's special security unit
