Panchayat staff observe Strike
KalimNews, 13 July 2016, Kalimpong : In protest against transfer of Panchayat staff a pen down strike has been called by Panchayat Karmachari Sangathan (PKS).
All the staff of 18 Gram Panchayats of Kalimpong I Block are observing the pen down strike starting from 14th July. It has stated in a press statement that Panchayat workers are facing several problems and since ten years its demand remains unfulfilled.
Protesting against this and random transfer of the staff to plains and transfer of staff from the plains to the hills, an indefinite strike has been called.
PKS has regretted for inconveniences caused to the general public.
There are 134 GPs in Darjeeling district while in the 8 community blocks of hills there are 112 GPs.
