MAN ARRESTED FOR INDECENT ACT IN FRONT OF GIRLS’ HOSTEL

HT, 22 Jul 2016, SILIGURI: The girls staying at a hostel of Prasanna Deb Women’s College in Jalpaiguri on Wednesday evening gathered the courage to end the perverted behaviour of a middle-aged man who was arrested by the police in front of the hostel. 

Sujit Das (43) used to frequent the hostel and behave in an indecent manner while staring at the girls. 

On Wednesday evening, Das, who is the driver of a batteryoperated Toto and has a son, visited the hostel located adjacent to the college and started behaving in an indecent manner while staring at the girls. Irritated and fed up with his perverted behaviour, the girls video-graphed his actions and sent the video to Ashis Roy, IC of Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police Station, through WhatsApp. 
Roy and his team reached the spot immediately and arrested Das. Though Das hails from Mondolghat, he stays at his inlaws’ house at Bhatia Building area in Jalpaiguri town. 
On Thursday, the hostel inmates said Das would often behave in an indecent manner in front of their hostel in the evening while staring at them. Initially, the girls avoided him. But after it turned out to be a regular affair, they met the IC and informed him about the situation. The IC told them to inform him the next time they see him outside the hostel. On Wednesday, as Das arrived at the spot and began behaving indecently, the girls gathered the courage and filmed his act and finally got him arrested. 
Das has been booked under section 354 (A) (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code. One of the girls in the hostel said, “We hope he is given severe punishment.”
