Dont mix teaching with politics: Partha

SNS | Kolkata | 24 July, 2016: State education minister Partha Chatterjee today cautioned school teachers against mixing politics with teaching and said that politics should not come in the way of their teaching.

Speaking at a programme organised by the Trinamool Madhyamik Teachers Association at Mahajati Sadan, Chatterjee said "While on duty, do not engage in party activities. Attend classes regularly and do not engage in party activities during school hours."

Elaborating the paramount duties of the teachers, the minister said, It is of the primary importance that teachers are available to the students whenever they need them.

Reminding the teachers of their role, he said the main focus of a teacher should be to gift good students to the society who would make Bengal proud through their achievements.

"I am a member of the Trinamool Congress. But, as a minister, I have a greater responsibility to carry out," he said.

The state education board, the minister announced, will be taking feedback from teachers on how the students are coping with the new syllabus pattern introduced to Madhyamik students two years ago.

"We seek feedback from the teachers and want to know how much the new syllabus has been beneficial to the students", the minister said.

"We had changed the syllabus keeping parity with national level, but we would also like to review what problems the students are facing while following the new pattern, he said.

The minister pointed out that the state government was going ahead with its plan to transfer teachers in aided and sponsored schools to maintain the teacherstudents ratio in schools.

It has been found in certain schools that there are are far too many students compared to the number of teachers, whereas many schools have more teachers than required. We will ensure schools get teachers according to the students strength,  Chaterjee clarified.
