Assault after death
TT, Jalpaiguri, July 14: A medical practitioner in Karala Valley tea garden near here was assaulted last night, alleging that his reluctance to attend to a sick estate worker had led to the patient's death.
Somra Kujur, the deceased woman's husband, said: "My wife Sitamoni, 42, had fallen ill last evening. We asked Tushar Roy to visit my quarter immediately. But he said he could only arrange an ambulance and didn't come to see my wife. As I returned home, I found Sitamoni lying cold on the bed."
Later, doctors at the district hospital said Sitamoni had died of cardiac arrest.
Roy said: "Naren Kujur, a non-worker, along with others barged into my quarter and assaulted and abused me, holding responsible for the woman death. I have filed a complaint against Naren Kujur."
