Woman missing

TT, Gangtok, June 28: A woman was washed away in a stream in North district this morning while trying to cross it by stepping on a pipe causeway.

Lunlay Lachungpa, 21, from Bi Chu village in north Sikkim was heading to Lachung from Mangan. Her younger sister was with her.

"There was a landslide near the stream this morning and a portion of the road connecting Chungthang to Mangan was washed away. Commuters are using the causeway for transshipment. The path that Lunlay took was slippery. She lost control and fell into the stream," said a police source.

Quick Response Team members from Chungthang and Mangan subdivisions and other officials looked for Lunlay. She could not be traced till this evening.
