Trafficking kingpins arrested, brought to Siliguri

Gagan was brought here from Gurgaon in transit remand by train under tight security on Monday night. Five suspected traffickers were earlier arrested from the West Bengal-Nepal border, and a police team from Darjeeling had gone to Delhi to nab others involved in the racket.
Suspected kingpin Gagan Verma was arrested on Saturday from his residence in DLF Phase 2, Gurgaon by a team of the Darjeeling police and their Haryana counterparts. Verma allegedly used to forge government documents such as Aadhar cards to traffic girls and force them to work in dance bars and the sex market.
Most of the girls trafficked were from Nepal, Darjeeling, Sikkim and the Dooars. Verma used to operate the racket in the Munirka area of Delhi and Gurgaon in Haryana.
Sunni Tamang, his accomplice from Nepal, managed to slip away from the Indian police, but she was apprehended by the Nepal police on Monday night at the India-Nepal border town of Nepalganj.
MARG volunteer Bishal Gond said the racket had a long chain from Siliguri to Delhi and Haryana with the involvement of many people. Sunni Tamang was the main person who used to lure girls from Nepal and north Bengal with promises of lucrative jobs and good money.
Earlier, the Khoribari police arrested Urgen Bhutia (23) and Srijana Rai (22) from the Panitanki border when they arrived from Delhi to escort new ‘girls’ who were actually volunteers working to nab the traffickers.
Urgen is a resident of Jaldhaka while Srijana is from Kumai. Hierien (39) from Shillong, Prashant Borah (24) and Pranjol Sunwar (37) of Dibrugarh and Pranita Sunwar of Sipchu Forest village under Nagarkata have also been arrested.
I remember the times when we used to see photographs of criminals on papers, posted for people to recognize them. I don't understand why today such criminals enjoy the right to cover their faces.
