Illegal gun arrest
TT, Gangtok, June 5: West district police yesterday arrested a businessman for possessing a country-made single barrel muzzle gun without a licence.
The police said Santa Bir Rai had bought the gun from Mahavir Kami, who had been held last week for manufacturing and selling guns illegally.
Rai, from Rimbi, has a grocery shop and is also a contractor. He bought the firearm in 2014 for Rs 21,000. He was produced in a court yesterday and remanded in three days' police custody.
Last week, Mahavir, 62, was arrested from Sardung and the police had said he and his son Prakash ran an illegal rifle manufacturing unit. Prakash, 24, is absconding. "We arrested Rai after Mahavir revealed that he had sold the gun to him," said a police source.
"Mahavir has named few persons to whom he sold arms," West district police chief, Pratap Pradhan, said.
