Hill TMC demands Bijanbari sub-division

Prashant Acharya, EOI, SILIGURI, 20 Jun 2016: The Bijanbari block committee of the hill Trinamool Congress has demanded the upgrading of the Darjeeling-Pulbazar block to a sub-division.
On June 18, the party’s Bijanbari block president, Nirmal Singh, led a delegation to Kolkata to meet with chief minister Mamata Banerjee and submitted a memorandum to her seeking the conversion of the Darjeeling-Pulbazar block into a full-fledged sub-division. Singh led a 10-member delegation that included block secretary Parwarish Subba and hill TMC Darjeeling district women’s wing chief Sarada Rai Subba.
After they submitted the one-page memorandum to the chief minister at her Kalighat residence, she was positive in her attitude and assured the delegation members that they would be invited to Kolkata soon to hold further discussions, said Singh.
"We have deep faith in the chief minister’s assurance and expect a positive move from her side as soon as possible,” said Parwarish Subba.
“Our committee aims to bifurcate the existing block into three blocks and Pulbazar and Bijanbari into municipality areas. Unlike the sub-division demand committee of the GJM, the Bijanbari Trinamool sub-division demand committee does not just put up posters, but believes in hard work. Soon, we shall hold public meetings, workshops and awareness programmes in all the gram panchayats of the block to raise awareness of our demand."
