Gautam Deb inaugurates tourism office in Siliguri

Prashant Acharya, EOI, SILIGURI,13 Jun 2016:The Siliguri Journalists' Club conducted on Sunday elected a new executive body by choosing 15 candidates from the 37 contestants. 
Pramod Giri of Hindustan Times was elected SJC president for the third term in a row. Irfan-E-Azam and Prasanjit Chowdhery have been chosen as joint vice presidents, while Angshuman Chakraborty is the secretary, Diptendu Dutta and Partha Pratim Sarkar the joint secretaries and Kundan Yolmo is the treasurer. 
Meanwhile, the executive members of the club comprise Prasenjit Raha, Shubhankar Sinha, Sabyachi Bhattacharya, Kuheli Sarkar, Mohan Karmakar, Bachhu Das, Laxman Shil and Sreyashi Kundu. The counting process was divided into two sections, the first to elect the executive committee members, and the second to announce the names of the portfolio bearers. 
The new committee members were handed over certificates and its first meeting will be conducted on Tuesday. 
Pramod Giri said the new committee will focus on the development of the club's activities and the construction of the upcoming building at Kawakhali in Siliguri's outskirts where chief minister Mamata Banerjee has allotted 5 khattas of land for the SJC. He said the new G+4 building will have a library, a parking facility, a guest house and canteen facilities. The guest house is to accommodate journalists who come to Siliguri for official work from outside.
