Flight tyre bursts while landing
TT, Siliguri, June 14: A tyre at the front of a Spicejet aircraft from Calcutta burst while landing at the Bagdogra airport this afternoon, forcing the offloading of all 198 passengers at the exit taxiway.
Rakesh Sahay, the airport director of Bagdogra, said flight SG 623 had landed at 2.19pm.
"There were 198 passengers on the flight. All are safe. The flight will return around 9pm," he said.
"Necessary repair will be done by a technical team. The flight will take off with the help of the Indian Air Force," said Sahay.
Bagdogra doesn't have Instrument Landing System needed for landing and take-off at night. The Air Force helps with flight operations at night in case of emergencies.
The original departure time of the flight was 2.45pm.
"The plane has been delayed by six hours. There was, however, no problem in air traffic because of the incident," said a source.
The flight left for Calcutta with 181 passengers around 9 tonight.
