Award for Sikkim nurse Madhu Mishra

TT, Gangtok, May 10: The Union health ministry has selected a nurse from Sikkim for the National Florence Nightingale Nurses Awards for her voluntary service to the earthquake victims in Nepal last year.
"I received a letter from the Union health ministry yesterday about my selection. I am happy as well as nervous," said Madhu Mishra, 44.
Madhu who has been working as a nurse in the district hospital in Singtam, around 30km from here, since 1998 will receive the award from President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Nurses Day on May 12.
The award includes Rs 50,000 and a citation.
According to sources, the Sikkim state government had recommended Madhu's name for the award.
The National Florence Nightingale Awards are given every year to nurses for their exceptional contribution in the field of health services.
Madhu who hails from Rangpo will fly to Delhi with her husband tomorrow.
According to sources, her travel, food and accommodation expenses will be borne by the Union health ministry.
"She is a dedicated nurse and her service in the field of health services is commendable," said health secretary Kumar Bhandari.
