Mukul and Dev in Jalpaiguri

TT, Jalpaiguri: Trinamul vice-president and MP Mukul Roy said on Wednesday the Election Commission should take necessary steps to ensure free and fair polls across the Darjeeling hills.
Roy (left), who was in Belacoba in Rajganj constituency of Jalpaiguri district with MP and actor Dev (second from right), said:
"Mamata Banerjee has established democracy in the hills but even today, voters in the hills cannot vote as they are fearful of facing the consequences. I would like to appeal to the Election Commission to make all arrangements to ensure free and fair polls in the hills."
He added: "...We would often come across wall graffiti in the Terai and Dooars saying the Left (workers) would prefer to part with lives and were ready to give blood to prevent partition of state. But today, both Left and Congress have allied with (Bimal) Gurung and the BJP. They will not succeed."
Dev in his brief speech sought votes for Trinamul. Later, both Roy and Dev held road shows in Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar districts. Picture by Biplab Basak
