
7 dead in car crash..... Tree death
TT, Gangtok, Jan. 6: Seven people were killed and five injured when a Tata Sumo fell off the road at Namthang in South Sikkim, 45km from here, this morning.
The SUV was travelling from Namchi in South Sikkim towards Gangtok.
Three women and the driver are among the deceased. "The vehicle fell almost 500ft below the road. We are trying to find out the reason for the accident," said a police officer.
The injured are being treated at the district hospital in Namchi.

Tree death
Gangtok: A woman -21- year old woman was killed when a silver oak tree fell on her near Majitar along NH10 in East Sikkim on Wednesday morning. The tree was being cut and the workers engaged for the job are absconding.
The former councillor of Development area under Gangtok Municipal Corporation, Y.B. Thapa, owns the land where the accident took place.
Thapa has been arrested. The deceased, Rupa Poudyal, 21, used to work in a pharmaceutical company. Two others have sustained injuries.
