Robbery bid foiled... Fast unto death in Tea garden

TT, Siliguri: Police arrested three persons and seized an SUV hours after they had tried to snatch a bag containing Rs 5 lakh from a female employee of Bandhan Bank at Shaktigarh on Tuesday. The trio couldn't escape with the money as others in the bank came to the rescue of the female employee. 

EOI: In an attempted robbery, a gang tried to snatch a bag containing Rs.5lakh from an employee of Bandhan Bank right in front of the branch office here in Shaktigarh. However, due to the alert locals in the area the robbery was averted. Notably, the bank employee, Tapas Das, had just reached the branch office with Rs.5lakh in cash when a gang arrived in an SUV and tried to snatch the bag. Hearing the alarm raised by the employee locals in the area gheraoed the robbers and saved the employee and the cash. The gang however managed to flee from the scene. The Branch office has filed an FIR at the local police station, while an investigation has been started. The police have arrested four people in connection to the case and are currently being interrogated.

Garden fast 
TT, Dec. 1: A Trinamul Congress-backed union launched a fast unto death on the closed Panighata Tea Estate today demanding the immediate reopening of the garden and cancellation of the land lease granted to the current owner. Darjeeling Terai Dooars Plantation Labour Union, an affiliate of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, also called a 12-hour general strike in the hills on December 10 over the same issue although Bimal Gurung had publicly announced before that there would be no shutdowns in the hills.
