Duncans estate PIL

TT, Dec. 8: The Darjeeling District Legal Aid Forum filed a PIL in Calcutta High Court today stating the condition of workers and their families in the Duncans Goenka Group tea gardens and requested the court to instruct the state to take necessary measures for them. 
"For the past nine months or so, the workers of the gardens owned by Duncans Goenka Group have been living amid deplorable conditions. There have been deaths due to suspected malnutrition ....," Amit Sarkar, the secretary of Darjeeling District Legal Aid Forum, who filed the PIL, said. 
"We have appealed to the court to pass on directions to the state so that it takes necessary measures for the welfare of the poor workers and their families ...," he added.
