GJM pins hopes on BJP for Gorkhaland

HT, 24 Nov 2015, DARJEELING: Pinning their hope on the saffron brigade for the fulfilment of the Gorkhaland demand, a Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) team met BJP national joint general secretary in Darjeeling.
The team apprised Prakash that since the last eight years the GJM has been a loyal alliance partner of BJP. The GJM has backed the BJP in the past two Lok Sabha elections and the panchayat polls.
The GJM ensured victory of the BJP candidate in Darjeeling, SS Ahluwalia and also campaigned and contributed in the victory of BJP candidates in the states of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Assam in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, remarked Roshan Giri, GJM general secretary.
“We reminded the Union home minister of the BJP’s commitment towards the creation of Gorkhland. The BJP’s election manifesto for the parliamentary elections in 2009 and 2014 stated that they would sympathetically consider the long standing demand of the Gorkhas. Along with this Narendra Modiji while campaigning in 2014 near Siliguri had stated that the dream of the Gorkhas is his dream. It is time that the BJP lives up to its commitment. Gorkhas throughout India are pinning their hopes on the BJP for the creation of Gorkhaland,” added Giri. The GJM team led by Giri, comprised of RP Waiba, GJM vicepresident; Binay Tamang, GJM assistant general secretary and Dawa Lama, GJM central committee member.
The GJM has also lined up dharnas in Delhi on December 17, 18 and 19 for Gorkhaland. GJM President Bimal Gurung has embarked on a padyatra since October 2. He has set himself a target of 9,000 km to be covered in 400 days, spreading awareness on Gorkhaland. Gurung plans to cover the Hills, Terai and Dooars in the plains and also to Delhi.
