Notification delay ire on state
TT, Siliguri, Oct. 25: The Darjeeling district Left Front today said it will launch a demonstration in Siliguri subdivision on October 28 to protest the state’s delay in issuing the notification for formation of the rural boards.
Jibesh Sarkar, convener, Darjeeling district Left Front, said: “The municipal affairs department issued notifications for election of mayor and chairman in Bidhannagar and Asansol Municipal Corporations, where elections were held on the same day (October 3) along with the three-tier SMP polls. But the panchayat and rural development department is not issuing notifications for the formation of boards at the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad.”
He added: “Unlike Bidhannagar and Asansol, the Left has won the SMP polls and the state is delaying the issuing of notification. This is being done to give time to Trinamul so that it can resort to horse-trading. We will launch a movement on October 28 in protest.”
Darjeeling district Congress president Shankar Malakar said: “I am in touch with our winning members. We will counsel them so that they do not walk into Trinamul’s trap. If Trinamul resorts to immoral tactics, we might think of approaching the judiciary.”
