Showers inundate Siliguri

TT, Siliguri, Sept. 23: A three-hour-long spell of heavy rain inundated several localities in and around Siliguri and damaged a portion of NH55 near Panchnoi bridge this evening.
The rain started around 5pm today and localities like Durgaguri, Champasari, Pradhannagar, Shaktigarh, Collegepara, Darbhangatola, Deshbandhupara, Subhashpally, Tumolpara, Ashoknagar, Milanpally, Lake Town and even some stretches on Hill Cart Road and Bidhan Road were inundated.
Ground floors of several shopping malls were also under water. As the rain stopped, residents of Shaktigarh blocked Burdwan Road, saying poor drainage system had led to the water-logging in the area.
The one-hour blockade that led to halt in traffic was lifted after police intervention. As NH55 was damaged near the Panchnoi bridge, heavy vehicles were forced to travel via Khaprail Road in Matigara.
