Two feet between life & death - The hill slide.... What happened on Tuesday night and its magnitude
Innumerable slides occurred across the Darjeeling hills, the major ones in Tingling, near Mirik, and three other locations in Mirik town. At 7th Mile in Kalimpong, Swetijhora on NH10 and a 20-metre stretch on the Damdim-
Algara Road, slides have killed people and demolished homes
WORST-HIT
The highest number of deaths have been reported from Tingling where at least eight houses were swept away
and 12 bodies were found. Seven are untraceable
ROADS

Rohini Road and Pankhabari Road between Darjeeling and Siliguri are open. Although a bridge has been washed away at Raptikhola, Mirik Road can be accessed by a detour. NH55 is blocked since landslips in 2010. NH10, which leads to Kalimpong and Sikkim, is blocked, as is the Damdim-Lava Road, which is the alternative to NH10
TOLL
So far, 30 bodies have been found. But many are missing so the toll could rise
TOURISTS
No reports of tourists being stuck in Sikkim or Darjeeling. This is not the season
