Career fair in north
TT, Siliguri, May 17: A Calcutta-based event management and educational promotion firm will hold the 12th Career Fair in association with The Telegraph in north Bengal and Sikkim this week.
Over 60 institutions, which offer academic and professional courses across the country, would put up stalls at the fairs organised by SAPE Events and Media Private Limited.
"Students who have just completed school are often in a dilemma about the career they should choose. Traditional options like medicine, engineering and LLB are there. But over time, many non-conventional courses have come up and students and their parents might not be aware of them. The fair becomes helpful at this juncture. Students and parents can visit the fairs at Gangtok, Darjeeling and Siliguri and get information from over 60 institutions across the country," said SAPE managing director Sanjay Thapa.
The fair would be held at Chintan Bhawan in Gangtok on May 19 and at Gymkhana Club in Darjeeling on May 21. It would start from 10am and go on till 5pm. In Siliguri, it will be held on May 23 and 24 at City Garden on Sevoke Road. The time is from 10am to 8pm.
"In Darjeeling, the fair would be held in association with the Rotary Club and in Gangtok, it would be organised along with the education department of Sikkim. Institutions like Amity University, Sharada University and Manav Rachna International University will put up stalls. They offer BA, BSc, BCom, medicine and engineering courses and non-conventional courses like graphic design, film technology and advertising," Thapa said.
Career counselling and panel discussions would also be held in Gangtok and Darjeeling. Udaya Mani Pradhan, former governor of Rotary International, district 3240, that includes the Northeastern states, Sikkim and parts of Bengal, said: "The Rotary Club has been holding counselling and guidance sessions in Darjeeling since 1991. This time, we have clubbed the event with SAPE. We have invited 46 schools and colleges in Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong subdivisions. Speakers like Rupak Das, an MBA from London, and renowned career counsellor Jaishanker Iyer from IIM Calcutta will speak on topics like "20 cool careers" and "follow your dreams" (in Gangtok and Darjeeling)."
He added: "We will also have a panel discussion with achievers between 25 and 35 years in the fields of medicine, army, police and administrative services."
