EOI, SILIGURI, 2 Apr 2015: Vistara, the joint venture between Tata Sons Limited and Singapore Airlines Limited, on Thursday launched flight services from Bagdogra airport in the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The chief minister, who ended her three-day visit to north Bengal this afternoon, flagged-off Vistara’s Airbus 320 aircraft and wished airport director Rakesh R Sahay her best wishes before flying back to Kolkata. Initially, the airliner will operate five planes, and by mid-April a sixth will be added to the fleet, informed Sahay.
Vistara chief executive Phee Teik Yeoh said, "We've had lots of customers asking us to fly to eastern India over the past month, so this new route is in response to customer demand.
The addition of this route reaffirms our commitment to promote regional connectivity in India, and contribute to the government's efforts to boost trade and open up development avenues for the people of the region." Vistara will operate the Delhi-Guwahati-Bagdogra-Delhi route on a daily basis.
