North Bengal, Sikkim in aid of Nepal
EOI, SILIGURI/ GANGTOK, Bhanu Bhakta Samity (BBS) of Siliguri has joined hands in philanthropy.
The welfare society has dispatched 600 cartons of drinking water, 20 cartons of saline water, and 50 cartons of baby food and biscuits to Mechi Udyog Sung, a local NGO in Kakarivitta,
“We, the samity members feel like a drop in the bucket right now, but every drop counts. We hope the little relief items sent from our side would do good to the survivors in Nepal,” said a member of the society.
Sikkim has also readied to provide assistance to the country.The Dirty Angels Motorcycle Club and Organisation of Music and Arts of Sikkim (OMAS) has jointly held a musical programme at MG Marg in Gangtok to raise fund for the family of the victims, said Tshering Lepcha, a representative who is to take the relief items to Kathmandu.
Under the collective initiation of MLA Dr Michung Bhutia, along with Dr Sudip and Dr Pema Lapchongpalay, medicines worth Rs 3.5 lakh, and food items amounting Rs 4.5 lakh is to be dispatched to Nepal. Bhutia, in his facebook page states that the relief items would be delivered to those places of Nepal where assistance have not been provided, and Lamjong tops their list.
Officials of a local social reform committee in Rangpo are set to donate 5 truck full of relief items to the quake-struck country, informed social worker GM Gurung. A candle-light prayer was also reportedly observed by various organisations of Gangtok on Tuesday at MG Marg for the earthquake victims who lost their lives in the calamity.
