HS Nepali paper re-test plea

Rajeev Ravidas, TT, Kalimpong, March 17: The Janmukti Secondary Teachers' Organisation has demanded a re-test of Nepali B paper of Higher Secondary examination that was held yesterday as the questions were set from the Class XI syllabus instead of Class XII.
The organisation alleged that candidates from the hills with Nepali as second language were made to answer questions from Class XI syllabus and it was the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education's mistake.
"All questions were from the Class XI syllabus, which is a glaring mistake on the part of the board. According to the rule, questions for all subjects can only be set from the syllabus covered in Class XII. Our students were caught completely off guard," said Bishan Roka, a spokesperson for the organisation, an affiliate of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha.
He said the organisation taken up the matter with the Darjeeling district advisory committee of the council and demanded a re-test. "The students will be the worst sufferers for no fault of theirs if the wrong done to them is not corrected. We demand re-examination of Nepali B paper."
Council president Mohua Das could not be contacted, as her mobile phone was switched off. An official said the complaint had reached her office and she was looking into it. "Experts are being consulted," said the official.
Basant Rai, headmaster of Ram Krishna Shiksha Parishad Higher Secondary school, and a member of the district advisory committee, said: "We all will have to protest. We will hold a meeting shortly and approach the president of the council and demand fresh examination for Nepali B."
A student of Kumudini Homes said: "For a few minutes, we didn't know what to do. If a re-examination is held, I will definitely sit for it."
