GJM lifts ‘ban’ on spot-billing system

EOI, DARJEELING, 20 Feb 2015: The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha today lifted its ‘ban’ on the spot-billing stratagem adopted by the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited following a meeting in Darjeeling with company representatives and the outsourcing private firms.
As per the agreement, the three private companies that hire meter readers for the WBSEDCL will increase the billing rate from the existing Rs9.50 to Rs10.50. The Hyderabad, Kolkata and Bangalore-based companies that cater to the Kurseong,
Darjeeling and Kalimpong sub-divisions, respectively also assured to make changes in the clauses listed in the appointment letters of meter readers.
The GJM had suspended the spot billing system across the hills from February 14 to pressurise the outsourcing companies to meet various demands of the 250 meter readers that include a raise in remuneration.
