CM sets up tea fund

TT, Calcutta, Feb. 26: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee today told the Assembly that the state would set up a welfare fund for tea gardens workers. 
"We are going to set up the West Bengal Tea Plantation Workers Welfare Fund with Rs 100 crore," Mamata said in her reply to the governor's address on the floor of the House. 
"There are around 12 lakh workers in the tea gardens. We have decided to give scholarships to the children so that they can complete their education. Health schemes, housing loans, skill development training," will also be given Mamata said. 
The government had earlier decided to provide a Rs 1,500 monthly financial assistance to workers of five closed tea gardens in north Bengal and rice at Rs 2 per kg for the families.
