Sikkim keen to adopt Singapore education system
SNS, Gangtok, 13 January 2015: Sikkim has become the first Indian state to send a delegation to Singapore to study the country’s education system there. With the state government keen on emulating the Singaporean model of Human Resources Development, the team of HRD officials recently visited that country and the Philippines in this regard.
Vijay Thakur Singh, the Indian High Commissioner to Singapore, called on state HRD minister RB Subba and appreciated the initiatives the state government had been taking to improve the quality of education in Sikkim. She briefed the minister on the education system of Singapore, its economy, politics and relations with India.
Minister Subba, in turn, briefed Ms Singh on the various initiatives taken up by the Pawan Chamling government and the importance being given to the improvement of the education system in the state, officials here said.
The Sikkimese delegation also visited Singapore’s education ministry where they were briefed on the initiatives taken in the education sector since they attained independence in 1965.Senior Officer, International Relations, representing the MoE there, explained to the delegation the various nuances of Singaporean education system, followed by an interactive session.
The delegation also visited Damien Centre Kindergarten School and interacted with the principal and teachers and visited real situation classrooms.
