Siliguri tribal committee calls bandh on 27 Dec

SNS, Siliguri, 25 December 2014: Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Vikas Parishad called a bandh in northern north Bengal on 27 December to protest against Assam carnage. Though the Joint Forum of trade unions operating in tea plantation in north Bengal has not supported the bandh, it would observe ‘protest day’ on 27 December.
The JF would take out rally from 40 places in this region to maintain peace and harmony from 2 pm on 27 December. In a press statement the JF strongly condemned the brutal killings of innocent and downtrodden people mostly Adivasis including women and children in several places in Assam on 23 December.
“This brutal killing is part of the inhuman act of extremist drive intended for ethnic cleansing perpetrated by the gangs of an extremist organisation. In 2012 there was a massive attack against Bengali speaking Muslims and before that several times Adivasis and other communities were targeted,” the JF said. “Joint Forum has appealed before all the patriotic and democratic forces of working people and all section of masses to come together jointly to strongly counter such reactionary extremism posing great dangers before the unity of working people and masses as well heavily disturbing the peace, tranquility and livelihood of the people at large,” the JF added.
Joint Forum has demanded all sorts of urgent steps on the part of Central government and the state government of Assam to curb all such extremist activities and to ensure safety and protection of lives, livelihood and property of general masses of all communities. The JF also demanded immediate measure for necessary medical treatment, adequate compensations to victim families and said rehabilitation should be ensured.
