Minor held for rape
TT, Gangtok, Dec. 30: A minor boy was arrested from West Sikkim yesterday evening for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl, who is his neighbour.
"The boy, 15, allegedly raped the girl at her home around 2pm (yesterday). When the mother of the girl returned, she saw the child crying. The girl narrated the incident to her mother. The boy was arrested from his house," said a police officer.
"We are waiting for the reports of the medical examination. The boy would be sent to a juvenile home tomorrow," said the police officer.
The Chairperson of Sikkim Commission For the Protection of Child Rights Deekila Bhutia expressed concern on the incident.
"This is very unfortunate incident in which both the victim and the accused are minors. We will try to get in touch with the family members of the girl very soon" she added.
