Mamata asks alipurduar DM to find land for Assam victims

TT, 30 December 2014:Chief minister Mamata Banerjee has instructed the district magistrate of Alipurduar to find land for residents of Assam staying in the Kumargram camps (in picture by Anirban Choudhury) if any of them wants to stay permanently in Bengal.
Militants belonging to the National Democratic Front of Bodoland's Songbijit faction had killed 64 Adivasis in the Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts of Assam on December 23. In Kumargram, near the Bengal-Assam border, relief camps have been set up by the Bengal government for the people fleeing the violence.
Arun Kumar Jain, the office secretary of BJP's central office in Delhi, has said party president Amit Shah directed that a delegation be formed to visit the camps at Kumargram on January 1 and review the condition there. The five-member team would be headed by Darjeeling MP SS Ahluwalia and will have Kamakhya Tasha and Rameshwar Teli, the BJP MPs of Jorhat and Dibrugarh, both in Assam, respectively. Biswapriya Roy Choudhury and Vijay Kumar Gupta, the BJP general secretaries in Bengal and Assam, respectively, will also be in the delegation.
Jag Mohan, the commissioner of Siliguri metropolitan police, on Tuesday flagged off two trucks with relief material from the commissionerate in Siliguri for the victims in the camps
