Mystery as Rs 20 lakh stolen in Siliguri

SNS, Siliguri, 7 November: Thieves stole Rs 20 lakh under mysterious circumstances from the office of distributors of two companies at Milan Pally in Siliguri last night, employees there said.
Police have started investigations into the incident that occurred around the area where the Siliguri police station is located. According to the police, no lock of the door was broken during the theft, while the employees said they had no idea how the incident occurred.
"Two employees last left the office at 11.05 last night. This morning, the security guard at the office informed us that he spotted a nylon rope tied to a window on the first floor and hanging down to the ground. A pair of gloves was also lying near the hanging rope. We immediately went to the office, and on entering the first floor room by opening the lock, we found that more than Rs 20 lakh was stolen from the locker. We immediately called the police," said the cashier of the office, Zakir Hussain.
Mr Hussain said more than 100 employees work under the distributors, and that the office covers the ground and the first floors.
"However, the Rs 1 lakh in bundles of 10-rupee denomination was left untouched. We do not know how the incident occurred," he said. Two bundles of cash of the denomination of 20 were found lying in a drain nearby.
Police officers from the Siliguri police station rushed to the spot this morning.
"We have received an FIR and started investigations," said the Siliguri deputy commissioner of police (Headquarters) OG Pal.
