Youth arrested for kidnapping minor
EOI, Gangtok, 10 October 2014: A 27- year- old youth was on Friday arrested by Ranipool police in connection with a kidnapping case. The police have identified the accused as Pema Norbu from Lachung in North Sikkim.
Norbu has been accused of attempting to kidnap a seven-year old minor girl, who is a student at a local school in Lachung. Police sources said the incident occurred when the girl and her father were returning home after school on Thursday. Norbu allegedly tried to grab hold of the kid and run, but was unsuccessful. When the locals saw the tussle between Norbu and the girl’s father, they came to rescue and saved the girl. The girl’s father has sustained minor injuries in the tussle.
In the melee, Norbu managed to slip away and was last seen heading towards Ranipool, where he was apprehended on Friday. He has been booked under sections 363/365/406 and 323 for attempted abduction and manhandling.
