Telangana stir cases against 690 persons lifted
Home Minister of Telangana Nayani Narasimha Reddy |
TNN | Oct 2, 2014: HYDERABAD: The Telangana government on Wednesday delivered a Dasara gift by providing relief to 690 persons against whom police cases were filed during the agitation for separate Telangana.
Orders lifting the cases were signed by home minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy and formal government orders to this effect are expected to be released in a day or two. The home minister who has been unwell and is undergoing treatment in a city hospital, instructed his staff to bring him the file pertaining to the issue and signed it. The lifting of cases was one of Telangana Rashtra Samithi's poll promises and was included in its election manifesto.
However, there are still some pending cases against persons who either destroyed or caused damage to central government property during the agitation that have not been lifted. According to officials, this would take some time as central government entities such as the Indian Railways and others that were targeted would have to give consent. The state government expressed confidence that this would happen soon.
