Rape charge
TT, Jalpaiguri, Oct. 10: A civic police guard in Jalpaiguri was arrested last night for allegedly raping his girlfriend after promising to marry her and then rescinding.
According to a police source, 24-year-old Zakir Hussain, from Paharpur on the outskirts of Jalpaiguri town, was in a relationship with the 21-year-old woman for over a year.
“The girl’s father has filed a complaint with us yesterday evening, alleging that the youth raped the woman and had promised to marry his daughter. He initially agreed to marry her but later refused,” a police source said.
“On the basis of the complaint filed by the girl’s father, we have arrested him and charged him with rape,” the source said.
Hussain was produced in the district and sessions court here today and remanded in jail custody for 14 days.
