RABI KARMAKAR MURDER CASE: Kolkata forensic team to initiate investigation

PRASHANT ACHARYA, Siliguri, 30 Sep 2014: A forensic team from Kolkata will arrive at Upper Bagdogra on Wednesday to investigate the gruesome murder of TMC leader Rabin Karmakar. The team will examine the bullets and the weapons that were used to kill Karmakar last Friday night.
The room where the incident occurred has been kept locked by the police and the forensic team will enter it to take samples of every article of significance inside.
Meanwhile, the Bagdogra police have detained some persons in connection with the case and are interrogating them to dig out the truth. On Monday, family members of Karmakar complained to Congress MLA Shankar Malakar alleging undue delay in investigation by the police and expressed their dissatisfaction in the latter for not getting the prime accused arrested.
Karmakar was a businessman, but a modest one and had been living in his tinned roof house in Bhujiapani near Bagdogra Airport since nearly seven years ago. He was engaged in taking catering contracts for marriages and other social functions. Later he joined the Trinamool Congress and gradually expanded his business. Karmakar has a tea garden near Bhuttabari, a jewellery shop at Hansqua, water supply and ‘Pandal’ business at Upper Bagdogra and was also engaged in land deals.
According to locals, his murder could be the fallout of a land deal dispute, while some sources said Karmakar had paid around Rs6 lakh for a fresh land deal just before the day he was killed.
