SNS, Raiganj, 23 October: Police rescued two children hailing from Sikkim from Singhatore village in Bochadanga under the Kaliyaganj police station area of North Dinajpur district this morning. Six-year-old Karma Bhutia and seven-year-old Bijay Chhetri are residents of some village at Manpur in South Sikkim, it is learnt.
They reportedly got down from the NJP-Radhikapur-bound train in Kaliyaganj station yesterday, and were found roaming about in Singhatore village today. After being informed of them, police sprang into action and took them in custody.
“We have come to know that the children are residents of south Sikkim. They boarded the NJP-Radhikapur bound train from NJP station. The reason for their leaving their home and arrival here is still a mystery, as they are too small to give out all the information,” Kaliyaganj police station IC Sreemanta Bandapadhaya said.
“We have started investigations to ascertain whether some persons are involved in trafficking them to some other place.
The children were handed over to the Child Welfare Committee in Raiganj.
