HNAF submits deputation on banning plastic carry bags
EOI, Siliguri, 22 Oct 2014: The Himalayan Nature and Adventure Foundation on Wednesday submitted a deputation to the Siliguri Dub-Divisional Officer Wangdi Bhutia demanding ban on use of plastic carry bag in the city. The HNAF delegation was also joined by members of other social organizations including Sliguri Welfare Society, Brihat Nagrik Manch and other NGOs based in the city.
The HNAF delegation said the main aim of the demand is to free the city from the pollution caused by non-biodegradable materials such as plastic carry bags. The HNAF along with other social organisations will also conduct awareness programmes on effects of plastic on nature.
The social organisations will conduct rallies across the city as well as put up posters and distribute leaflets. Notably, the SMC has also already started a drive against the usage of plastic bags, while North Bengal Development Minister Gautam Deb also had talked about banning plastic bag to back the Clean and Green mission started by him under the Swacha Bharat Abhiyan. The Gorkha Territorial Administration also had recently started ban on usage of plastic bag and gutkha across the hill as part of the Swacha Bharat Abhiyan.
