NBMC&H on high alert after state’s first Ebola suspect

EOI, Siliguri: Following reports of state’s first Ebola suspect, the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital is in a high alert.
The hospital had struggled to contain the number of encephalitis deaths, which shot-up to over 100 in the district during the past few months.
However, the hospital is confident of handling the high-risk situation and is currently preparing to tackle it. According to sources, a separate specialized ward has been prepared to take patients suspected of Ebola.
Earlier, 25-year old Aleek Das was suspected to carrying the disease and has been admitted to Raiganj district hospital of North Dinajpur. A labourer by profession, he had just returned from Africa and has been diagnosed with symptoms related to Ebola, which includes high fever, muscle pain and vomiting. He is currently quarantined at a makeshift isolation ward of the Raiganj hospital.
