High alert sounded by Siliguri police chief

EOI, Siliguri, 25 September:Following the police intelligence input of possible terror strike on soft targets like Rail station, Bus Terminus, Puja pandals, Shopping malls have been put on high alert and security arrangements being made to cope up with any untoward incident, said Siliguri Police commissioner, Jagmohan.
CC TVs in strategic & important points have been installed which will be manned 24 hours, plain clothes security personnel will keep a close vigil mingling in crowd of pandal hoppers and shoppers. Bomb and dog squad will be deployed, he said.
Siliguri owing to its strategic location encircled by Bangladesh and Nepal and having neighboring states like Bihar and Sikkim is considered to be a safe hide out and soft target for terror attack.
The police chief has asked the citizens to be cautious and dial ‘100’ for assistance and leaving information relating to any unusual movement or unclaimed bag or any other articles. We are ready to cope up with any untoward incident, he added.
To protect and assist incoming tourists heading to various destination routed through Siliguri “Tourist Police team” has been formed in a police and tourism department joint venture he informed.
