Cops fire at each other
TT, Siliguri, Sept. 3: Two constables suffered bullet injuries when shots were fired from among six policemen who were patrolling Siliguri in a jeep tonight.
Karlos Oraon and Tashi Sherpa have been admitted to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.
According to sources, a police vehicle was patrolling the town with six constables.
“Around 10pm, as the vehicle reached Tinbatti More, Oraon, who was seated in the back seat, fired at Sherpa, who was in the front seat. The bullet hit Tashi on the ribs. A few more rounds of bullets were fired by Karlos, prompting one of the other four constables to fire at Karlos, who was hit on one of his legs,” said source.
According to the source, it is not very clear whether the firing by Karlos from his service rifle was accidental.
“We are yet to know whether he had any enmity with Sherpa,” said a police officer.
O.G Pal, the deputy commissioner of Siliguri, said: “There was an incident of firing among police constables late this evening. We have to find out whether it was accidental or something else.”
