Artificial rock climbing wall inaugurated in Siliguri

EOI, SIliguri, 8 September 2014: Siliguri’s first artificial rock climbing wall was inaugurated today at Suryasen Park in the town by the North Bengal Development minister Gautam Deb to mark the 25th anniversary of the Himalyan Nature And Adventure Foundation of Siliguri.
The sport, also known as indoor climbing, is an increasingly popular form of rock climbing performed on artificial structure that attempt to mimic the experience of the outdoor one.
This is first of its kind in Siliguri and the second one in Darjeeling district.
An aspirant climber needs consistent practice to improve his skills and the artificial rock climbing will provide such aspirants with the infrastructure to practice indoor climbing.
Speaking to the press Deb said the government has undertaken a number of projects to reshape the park.
The other important figures present at the inauguration ceremony included Kushang Dorji Sherpa, a five time Everest climber and Siliguri police commissioner Jagmohan among others.
HNAF honoured the guests offering khadas according to the tradition of the region.
